Social Interaction is a vital part of learning

thanks K.J –> this helps :)

The following is an abstract of a paper by Jacobs and Polson that explores the need for social interaction in a childs education.

In this paper, the authors contend that the strategies so far pursued in embedding mobile and social learning in to a curriculum framework have been implicitly flawed. Rather than allowing pedagogy to direct and shape educational experiences delivered via these emergent technology devices, the authors believe there needs to be stronger focus on the interaction between players in a learning context, including the pedagogue and standard information resources, but also accommodating further expert input/commentary and protocols that facilitate negotiated and evolutionary understanding. Interaction design aspects associated with engagement in learning need to be given greater consideration, in order to accommodate the benefits of these diverse technologies. Furthermore, testing and assessment processes for learning need to be adapted to accommodate the skills development directly associated with the particular learning channel. The paper is structured to demonstrate the ubiquity of mobile and social technologies and the need to acknowledge a ‘natural use’ for such technologies in learning and teaching. The authors assess the validity of arguments promoting Web 2.0 technologies in the context on interaction design models. They then present case studies in mobile and social learning, which aim to demonstrate the necessity of interaction design principles in planning curriculum and learning facilitation strategies. Finally, they propose a model for planning of teaching and learning by maximising the interactive effectiveness of emergent mobile and social technologies

How are teachers coping with Web 2.0 technologies in school

HOW???

How are teachers coping with the change of technology? well as a student i’m only grasping the concepts…

here’s a questions: should they be tip-top? or should we skip a generation?

No to both! we have to professional and build skills! Hence why students go to school. If the information is new for them, we don’t just say “ah-well lets skip a generation” we usually say “build skills”.

The use of technology in school

Technology in the classroom!!!

Ipods in Library’s!!

What is this world coming to???

 From the N.D Ebsco artical…

here is the abstract:

(Jul2007)

This article focuses on the U.S. Department of Education’s (DOE) call for input from educators on how best to use technology in education. A four question survey is being handed out to teachers in the U.S. and some think it is a poor excuse for policy making. Steve Hargadon runs a social network for educators and he believes dialogue is vital to determining how to use technology in schools. He created his own version of the questionnaire online that encourages feedback from other teachers.

What is all the Hype?

Blogging is not a hard thing. The only tricky part is if you are not familiar with the program. Where does a new blogger fit in, in comparison to a passionate lady? To compare my blog (this one in particular) to her’s.  Jude has 11 hyperlinks on one past… I only have one, if not two – not good enoughShe has a picture and creative title  - mine just has my name – I guess she must have paid for her blog page to enable this image to appear. As my wordpress is just an assignment and I’m only interested in the free package and I have to use the given programs to make my page better. Most of the programs are there, I guess I have to find a means as to utilize themThe images and pictures double as hyperlinks. These are not only for entertaining purposes, but contain information useful for searching for information on Web 2.0.Her interests come to life – she encourages people to blog. Her Del.ici.ous link is also connected. This makes viewing and browsing the web a whole lot easier. A person who has to multi-task and keep up with many units THIS IS VERY BENEFICIAL.Click here She has a presentation of how literacy and web logging are becoming revolutionary in the classroom. This is a sad reality for me. I have to be more computer savvy like her.

… Well at least I’m able to use this as an example. The work she presents are valuable and i’m sure i will be able to use it for this assignment

Who Still Uses Message Boards?Thursday, Jul. 19, 2007 By BILL TANCER

So, there we have it!

Web 2.0 is a revolution!

Web 1.0 is considered to be the ‘old news’.

The demographics of people who use the internet/Web have also changed – from the 90’s ‘computer nerds’ to the AKA yuppies/entrepreneur of today.

Though the article does not mention all the latest programs that we could use in a classroom situation or what programs are being replaced from the desk-top computer… it still made news to inform people the winds of change.

The sites he lists are some programs that may or may not hit Australia. We will have to keep an eye out to see how ideal they are and if they will benefit our need to communicate and transport information.

Web 2.0 is a connecting and informing many people. It’s a new revolution that can be accessible to everyone. All you need to do is give it time

Well – What is Web 2.0?

*Google*

*Google*

Introduction:

This program is definitive of Web 2.0 – it started as a basic Web 1.0 information search engine and over the last couple of years people were able to look for images as well as information. Today there is a list of things this program can do. It is making money though adverting companies.

With Web 2.0, it has move from a searching program (Web 1.0), to having the ability to store information and link with other programs and people. Most of the programs are easy to use and there are many programs for all purposes of Web 2.0!

Critique:

-          Advantage

o   You can use this program for all internet and Web 2.0 programs possible

o   It is easily accessible o   Its freeo   There are stick privacies

o   There are many programs are all amazingly useful

-          Disadvantage

o   You must have the internet

o   If you are new the World Wide Web, it is advisable you have someone teach you or you can send your own hours figuring it out

o   Too many things to join!

o   There are groups with the programs which can become overwhelming

o   Because there are companies that are paying their way to reach our screens, we have to look at the credibility

How can it be used?

The men from Google had an idea of having a search engine – then elaborated on the idea of having people work on the ‘free-Web’. They have created or own an extensive range of products:

·         ‘G-mail’ – E-mail access

·         ‘Blogger’ – blog page

·         Google and Google Scholar search engine (images and information)

·         View the news, have an e-mailing alarming system

·         Have information sent to your mobile

·         Chat to people

·         Store work documents and files

·         Etc… visit http://www.google.com.au/intl/en/options/ to see them all

·         They also own the rights to YouTube

o   In itself you can create your own account for viewing, storing and uploading videos clips

o   You can write about them in comment space on the blogs

What particular class would benefit from it?

ALL KLA’s – particularly the computer science classes

How have I used it in the past?

I have G-mail, Blogger and store information on the Document and spreads

I have viewed how the programs such as Google scholar and YouTube can benefit my assignment and personal researches.

How will I use it from now on?With my numerous subscriptions I can keep further in touch with the other studying ND students. Also I may come to a stage where i may take advantage of the extra programs that are available for easy accessibility of information.

WEB 2.0
